About us
The Good Heart Community Center started in 1998 with a dream to serve the children of the Standing Rock reservation at Christmas time. Since then it has grown into a safe place to come together and resource the community.
A building was needed to carry out the vision: having a space for the children and community to gather together. In 2002 we asked the local district to purchase an older building that once was The Big Foot Bar. We were able to redeem the space, turning a negative into something positive for the community.
Since 2002, the Good Heart Community Center has offered a consistent presence in a culture of change. Good Heart is the hub for community meetings, holiday celebrations, and educational programs. Our thrift store provides clothing, furniture, and household goods for all ages.
An advocate for the elderly and those in need of assistance, we work together with local service organizations connecting critical services with those most vulnerable.
Many issues face the Standing Rock community, and we are here to enter in. Currently mental/emotional health, drug use, alcoholism, absent fathers, poverty, and the loss of cultural identity are major issues we see around us.
